Hip-hop trio, The Dox, was founded by friends from Sacramento, California when they were just teens. True to the prolific nature of this fluid form, the group has literally recorded the evolution of the genre with a dozen releases in nine years. The Dox—an abbreviated form of Goondox and a reference to the 1985 cult classic, “The Goonies”—feature a sound that embraces East, West and South Coast styles, making certain that just one never defines them. Part beat mixing and overdubbing, part rhythmic rap and funk shout-out, The Dox’s music has a stripped down underground vibe at its core. With the group’s street-cred edge always front and center, their deft blend of both independent and mainstream hip-hop influences ensure a level of accessibility to those outside of the urban base camp. The Dox are storytellers, giving voice to fans from all backgrounds, with their uncensored and uncompromising truth of the moment. The Dox members, Styll and Graphk first worked together professionally in III Squad. Cash the Freshman then made it a trio upon his discharge from the U.S. Army. The trio soon changed their name to The Dox and became part of Seattle’s 2006 “Bay Area Bash” and later, the 2009 “And 1: Ball 4 Real Tour” where they performed with such acts as The Jacka, Luni Coleone, T-Nutty, and Celski and Killa Keise (Rest in Peace). The Dox used these tours to establish a core following, ultimately selling 75,000 independently-produced CDs in the process.
