Shannon is a singer of jazz, indie soul, pop music, and good ol’ fashioned Baptist hymns. Shannon grew up in a Partridge-Family-esque musical group – her parents called their family band Rocksalt. They ministered as musical missionaries out of their home in Tacoma, Washington from the time the kids were all tots. Consequently, Shannon spent her pre-college years, from the age of 3 on up, playing and singing with her family in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. They ventured out on periodic tours from the late ‘80s to the early ’00s, wandering over the continental United States, Mexico, Great Britain, and Europe, singing in 5-part harmony and generally rocking out. As she made her way through college at Pacific Lutheran University and The University of Montana, Shannon’s interests and curiosities expanded into the world of jazz and the gospel/soul/R&B tradition. Eventually, her passion for music became blatantly obvious and she began to sing and make music with serious and unrestricted enthusiasm. Shannon now lives in the delightful New York City borough of Queens. She plays with jazz duos and trios around town at the occasional brunch or bar, singing the old familiar standards everyone knows and loves, along with some lesser-known tunes – just to keep you on your toes! She also plays in nightclubs and other venues with her own band, which has more of a unique sound. This is where she likes to air her original compositions, and where you can see her blend of jazz, pop, and indie soul come to life. Shannon spends her free time at local jams playing with and listening to mind-blowingly talented musicians, and writing up her dreams into music. Shannon spent the summer of 2014 working with the talented Andrew Soderlund and Campbell Youngblood-Peterson on an EP of her original compositions titled “innocent heart." It features some of the fabulous musicians Shannon has had the opportunity to work with in the city.
