简介
Stephen Matthew Barnett is a classically trained pianist and composer/songwriter who received his B.A. in Music Composition from Duke University and his M.F.A. in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. As an undergraduate, he studied under the tutelage of Stephen Jaffe and Scott Lindroth, and while pursuing his Masters at NYU, his teachers included William Finn, Michael John LaChiusa and Mel Marvin. His thesis musical, "Beautiful," received its Off-Broadway premiere as part of the 2005 New York International Fringe Festival, a production that starred David Anders (TV’s "Alias"), Rodney Hicks (original cast of "Rent"), and Nikka Graff Lanzarone ("Chicago," "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown"). In 2006, Stephen provided the music preparation for Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s "Company," which transferred to Broadway later that year. In July 2006, an evening of Stephen’s work was showcased at the Triad Theatre, as ASTEP (Artists Struggling to End Poverty) launched its inaugural ArtCents Benefit Concert Series. With musical direction by Mary-Mitchell Campbell ("Big Fish," "The Addams Family," "Sweeney Todd," "Company"), the concert featured performances by Tituss Burgess ("The Little Mermaid," "Guys & Dolls," "Jersey Boys"), Joe Cassidy ("Dirty Rotten Scoundrels"), Manoel Felciano ("Sweeney Todd"), Elizabeth Stanley ("Company"), and Barbara Walsh. Stephen has released two other albums – "Free Spirit" (1999), a collection of neo-classical piano works composed during his study at Duke, and an original concept recording of his thesis musical, "Beautiful" (2004). Stephen’s latest project, "Adultolescence," a chamber-pop art-song cycle, is currently in development. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– THE PLAYERS: Vocals – Chris Barnett, Stephen Barnett, Ryan Cunningham, Rebecca Larkin, Justin McEllroy, Maggie McNeil, Michelle Miller, Tania Taylor Powers Piano/Hammond Organ/Fender Rhodes/Wurlitzer/Autoharp – Stephen Barnett Acoustic/Electric Guitars – Chris Barnett Bass Guitar – Chris Barnett Drums/Percussion – Bill Robertson Trumpets – Chris Barnett Trombones – Stephen Barnett Violin – Naho Parrini Viola – Brooke Quiggins Cello – Maria Jeffers Produced & Engineered by Chris Barnett Recorded at Ocean Studio, Ronkonkoma, NY Mixed by Wil Farr Mastered by Oscar Zambrano at Zampol Productions, New York, NY
