简介
The FleshDevils story starts in 1997, when guitarist Jose Alves met Dino Archon in a Los Angeles bar. Both hailed from South Africa where they had already forged formidable reputations as musicians – Dino with the Assylum Kids and Jo with Syndicate, before emigrating to the US in the late eighties. Ten years later, the fusion of African and American rock influences forged a powerful writing approach, based on relentlessly melodic guitar riffs, playing off the howling rage that is the Archon voice in full flight. In a flurry of creative rage against the iniquitous growing prejudice against those dispossessed of conformity by those in its thraw the dynamically dysfunctional duo wrote fifteen songs in the space of a week. Songs of rage, of anger and love and including KISS THE FEAR - the song that was to become the bands anthem to inner belief. Eventually these songs found their way to London Producer Andrew Brel who inveigled legendary drummer Charlie Morgan to change his name to Spider, turn his back on a highly lucrative gig touring with Elton John, and lend his thunderous style to complete the Devils sound. The last piece of the power rock trio was in place. Guitar and voice: JoJo Flesh Bass and Howl: DinoDeVille Drums: Spider The recording session for the FLESHDEVILS album took place in Surrey, in the sleepy village of Ripley, (home of Eric Clapton) at the infamous Black Barn Studios, location of many legendary recordings, including work by the Manic Street Preachers, Bad Company and Paul Weller. The album was released in 1997 and a series of gigs in LA followed. Despite a wild reaction the their live set, the bands granite edged 'no compromise' stance, and in particular hard core front man Deano DeVille thinly disguised vitriolic outpourings presented as poetic angst alienated mainstream distributors. The inability to find contentment in his own art fuelled the need to destroy all that was good in the name of brilliance. This soon became the Devils mantra. After just six Months of touring, the band broke up. Spider returned to the touring stage with a variety of well known acts, including Trisha Yearwood. Dino toured with Tribe After Tribe, whilst releasing a steady stream of new material under his own name. JoJo focussed his remaining energies on studio production, writing performing and producing the award winning ‘Brother Time’ and developing his unique two handed tap guitar technique. So it was that this classic moment in trans continental multi cultural power Rock ended up as a single web site exclusive offer. Selling a few hundred copies a year to the word of mouth public intent on exploring the legend of the FleshDevils.
