"RIDE" is the most recent work of super producer Jason Carroll (dubbed Jason Carroll & the Smooth Jazz Symphony). Smooth jazz fans from all walks of life will enjoy the album as it draws some interesting influences from various artists and incorporates music that listeners of varying ages can relate to. DISCOGRAPHY: "RIDE" - 2014 "Let It Flow" - 2014 "Special Memories" (Single Release) - 2014 "Cool" - 2007 Denis Poole's review of "Let It Flow" Jason Carroll & The Smooth Jazz Symphony - Let It Flow August 27, 2014 It is no exaggeration to say that both ‘Cool’ and ‘2 Smooth’ by multi instrumentalist and producer Jason Carroll turned out to be something approximating cult sensations. Certainly the volume of correspondence that my reviews of these two albums brought forth suggested that here was an artist of whom contemporary jazz fans wanted to know more. Now he is back with his latest offering, ‘Let It Flow’. Although continuing to masquerade beneath the banner of the ‘Smooth Jazz Symphony’, all ten tracks are (in common with his two previous recordings) composed, produced, arranged, and performed by Carroll. The result is a collection that rivals the likes of Kool & Klean for the way it inhabits that sweet spot somewhere between smooth jazz; ambient and chill. Not only that, the entire CD pays homage to Jason’s now deceased mother who, in his early years, provided all the encouragement he needed to take up (then flourish on) the piano. Indeed it was her idea to take the track ‘Summer’s Groove’ (that has Carroll’s trademark chill vibe front back and center) as the basis for the entire ‘Let It Flow’ project and another ‘classic Carroll’ number is the aptly titled ‘Total Relaxation’. Sure to impress with a quality that is trance like, it is in the good company of ‘Take Your Time’ which glides like light on water while elsewhere the zesty yet restrained ‘Let’s Dance’ is right up there with the best that ‘Let It Flow’ has to offer. ‘Downtown’ is perhaps best summed up as a first rate slice of mid tempo, piano driven, smooth jazz and, despite the fact that Carroll is a native of Wichita, KS, ‘At Sunset’ might well have been written with the image of soft seas breaking onto Californian shores in mind. The happy vibe of the title cut lays a path to ‘By The Shore’ for which Jason’s immaculate piano solo was again inspired by his mother and, although ‘Stay Together’ moves Carroll closer to ambient territory, he changes gears to evoke the sound of Acoustic Alchemy with the utterly engaging ‘Café Bella’. Available now from both Amazon and iTunes, ‘Let It Flow’ is ideal for those who prefer their smooth jazz to be served wholeheartedly smooth.
