I'm not that guy that sits in his bedroom all day and writes 5 love songs on guitar. All of my music is different. When I first come up with an idea, my goal is to make that idea sound awesome to anybody, regardless of what genre or style it might end up belonging to. I've been making music as a solo artist since I was about 13, and back then all of my music was made on a keyboard, mostly with string samples and piano. It was kind of weird for a 13-year-old, seeing as I played the drumset and listened to a lot of punk rock. But I didn't care about that. I just thought it was a blast to make new songs that sounded pretty. The interesting thing about my Nomad album is that the majority of the songs were recorded before I even had the intent of making a record; it was still just a hobby at that point. But one day I thought, "Hey, what's keeping me from making an actual CD to market?" So I got a bit more intentional with it (and I bet you could pick out which 4 songs were written after this point when I started taking things a little more seriously). I play everything myself. I don't even know how to use samples or virtual instruments; plus they aren't any fun. The more stuff I'm able to bang on, the more fun I have. I end up using a lot of weird objects in my songs, such as plastic coolers, jars full of dry oatmeal, those little plastic sticks you find in new women's dress shoes, pvc pipe, and more. I don't have a keyboard, so anytime I need a synthesizer or another electronic sound, I create it from scratch. It takes a lot of experimentation and fine tuning, but it's worth it. Having no option but to mess around and experiment is often what leads me to new discoveries that often take my songs in way better directions. The female vocals on Nomad are done by my wife, Hanna. The majority of people's comments about my music when they first hear it are, "Who's that pretty female voice on your album? She's great!" So I guess I have a lot to thank her for. I am currently getting ready to release a new album called The Company. This album is very well written, and it sounds much more professional. Instead of working on each song for a couple days and then recording it (like I did with the majority of Nomad), I fine-tuned all of my new songs for about 8 months before I began recording. This new album is a tank, and it so incredibly beautiful and driven. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of response it gets. I will have the album out sometime between the end of June and the middle of August.
