Percussionist and composer Tomasz Arnold was born in Krakow (Poland) in 1990. He started his musical education at the age of seven on violin and after four years switched to percussion. In 2006, Tomasz Arnold won 1st prize at the “European Music Prize for Youth” International Marimba Competition in Münster (Germany) and had his orchestral debut performing Ney Rosauro's "Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra" with Münster Symphony Orchestra. Next year, he won first prizes at two other international competitions: 1st prize at the International Young Talent Percussion Competition of Jonas Talocka in Ukmerge (Lithuania) and 1st prize at the International Competition for Percussion Instruments “Pendim” in Plovdiv (Bulgaria). In Lithuania, he also received a Special Prize for the best snare drum performance. The same year he was invited to play a solo recital at the International Percussion Festival “Crossdrumming” in Warsaw (Poland). In 2008, Tomasz Arnold was invited to play three solo recitals in Ukmerge, Šiauliai and Klaipeda (Lithuania), as part of the International Percussion Festival of Jonas Talocka. That year he was also invited to play a solo recital at the City Concert Hall in Abbeville (France) and to play Ney Rosauro's "Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra" in Neubrandenburg (Germany) with the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2009, Tomasz Arnold became a student of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester (USA) where he is pursuing a double major in Applied Percussion and Composition. He currently studies percussion with Michael Burritt and Charles Ross, composition with Carlos Sanchez-Gutirrez and jazz mallet performance with Howard Potter. Three months after he started studying at Eastman (November, 2009), Tomasz Arnold won 1st prize at the International Marimba Competition in Paris (France). In March 2010, Tomasz Arnold was invited to give a solo performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. In February 2011 Tomasz Arnold performed Joseph Schwantner's "Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra" with Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra in Bydgoszcz (Poland). Tomasz Arnold started to compose in 2003 as a first year middle school student. His early works include pieces for solo and chamber percussion. Later on he started to compose for other instruments and for larger ensembles including full symphonic orchestra. His piece "Miniature for Chamber Orchestra" won both 2nd prize and the Audience Prize at the 9th All-Polish Young Composers Competition (“Music Forum” Students Festival) in Warsaw (Poland). Next year, his piece "Sinfonietta per archi" won the Audience Prize and the Performers’ Prize at the same competition. As a participant of numerous master classes and workshops, Tomasz Arnold has studied with world-renowned percussion artists such as: Keiko Abe, Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic, Peter Sadlo, John Beck, Jeffrey Moore, William Moersch, Jean Geoffroy, Mitch Markovich and Linda Maxey. The debut CD “Incoming” includes some of Tomasz’s favorite compositions for solo marimba as well as works recorded for the first time such as his “Variations on the Seven Pitches”, “Hegira” by Carrie Magin and “Rounders" by Michael Burritt (performed with percussion ensemble).
