Matt Katz, originally from the shores of Coney Island, began his musical career in 1996 at the Orange Bear, NYC. A Piano virtuoso and lover of Joni Mitchell and the rock gods of the 60s and 70s, he entered the anti-folk and underground rock scene, bringing with him an energetic and emotionally charged stage presence.

He established himself early on as an exciting performer and songwriter, and began his first record while still in college. Released independently in the winter of '97, October Sessions was a collection of piano-driven rock songs inspired by Matt's childhood and rocky adolescence. Matt introduced the songs to audiences in New York and the tri-state area via his solo performances, and was later joined by his back-up band, the Sirens. Already a stand-out act, he became known for his raucous cover of The Divynls' tune "I Touch Myself".

After the break-up of the Sirens, Matt started his travelogue-style second release, Pilgrim, recorded in a church and a warehouse in upstate NY. Matt experimented with mixing Rock and Roll with classical instruments as well as elements of urban electronica. The two singles: "Passion Play (heal)" and "Light" were used in independent films in the states and internationally. These cuts have received commercial and non-commercial radio play in Canada, Domestic college radio, and international stations.

After several years of touring, living, and writing, Matt is working on his third and most ambitious effort--All of a Sudden, The Wireless!, due sometime this year. The album will contain, among other things: bits of stolen conversation, jazz, references to American states, a saxophone, and pretty harmonies. Matt is still playing NYC and internationally. He lives in Brooklyn, NY, with a claw-footed bathtub and a sizeable movie collection.
