There’s a War Going on Outside/No Birds Round Here, Just bullets that Fly/There’s a War Going Outside/There’s Death Everywhere but I Feel so Alive These are insightful lyrics from perhaps one of the most profound hooks to a song to see daylight in sometime. Simply titled, “Iraq,” not since the socially conscious words of Marvin Gaye, Public Enemy or KRS One has an urban contemporary song had such a piercing effect. The music is pure hip-hop, danceable and includes a unique and authentic Middle Eastern vibe. Written and recorded by Timz-- this San Diego native, who is of Iraqi descent, has been receiving numerous accolades for the provocative single and accompanying video. “Iraq” was the winner of ‘Best Music Video’ in the Hollywood Film Festival as well as a potential nominee for ‘Video of the Year’ in the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. TIMZ was also the recipient of MTVUs’ popular “The Freshman Award” in which college students cast their vote for their favorite video to be added into regular rotation. The song was a Top Five Most Added Single on the CMJ College Radio Charts and Timz has become a staple on YouTube.com, receiving over a million plays in total. “Iraq” is featured on Timz’s album, Open For Business, which is downloadable through iTunes. Not all of Timz’s songs are on the message vibe of Iraq. The album features lighter fair, such as the boastful “Doing It Big,” the club banger titled, “Coming Along,” and the very sexy “Put it on the POLE” featuring TQ. Regarding this well-received album, Timz says, “I like to make music that people can sing to, laugh to, dance to, and cry to. I don’t like to take myself too seriously and I don’t try to act like something I’m not. I don’t rap about killing and selling drugs because I don’t do that. I make music about what I know.” Currently, Timz is working on his sophomore album, Future History, and says he gave it that title after realizing the potential that his generation has. “People don’t realize that we are the future’s history. Years from now, people are going to be reading about us. So let’s give them something to read about.” Due to the controversy surrounding “Iraq,” Timz has become somewhat of a de facto spokesperson against the war-- and has gotten added news footage from around the world—including appearances on MTV, FOX News, Al Jazeera International, French TV and Russia National TV amongst many others. For the heavily anticipated, Future History, Timz finished recording the music video to “Do Something,” a socially conscious track reminding today’s youth to not become numb to the ills of society and to ‘get up, get out and do something!’ “It’s easy for people to yell, scream or cheer for changes to be made,” says Timz, “but for some reason it’s hard for us to get up when it really counts.” Another favorite for Timz taken from the album is “Die For Never.” “Lyrically, that is my favorite song I have written. I was able to say everything that I wanted to say, exactly as I wanted to say it.” Timz is in a very unique situation as a musician, as he is positioned to make an easy transition from just a Hip-Hop artist into an influential international Pop icon. “There really aren’t many major Middle Eastern artists appearing on the American charts. I want to fill the void in the entertainment industry,” Timz says. “I want to be the face or the name people think of when they think of Middle Eastern people. Right now we have a very negative light on us… and I want to be the positive. I want to show the world that we aren’t all crazy. I want to show the world we laugh too… we dance too… we rap too!” I plan to tour the world very soon and have my music be heard and sung by everyone, everywhere. I’m cool with everybody. Black, White, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Atheist... whatever you are. I have no biases. I want my music to show that we can all come together as one big melting pot… not just in the USA but in the entire world. If I can achieve that in the least bit - I’ve succeeded. “ With millions of people already aware of Timz and his message simply through his own independent efforts, he is well on his way to achieving his greater goals in the very near future.
