This third release on the Maui Institute for Modern Music (MIMM) label offers a wide range of compositional approaches from the 20th and 21st centuries as performed by expert musicians and long-time participants in our concerts. Composers from the United States, Mexico, France, and Cuba receive performances by musicians from Canada, Hawai’i, California, New Jersey, New York, and Chicago. The remarkable Duo Diorama - Minghuan Xu, violin, and Winston Choi, piano - performs Perperikon (2014) by their colleague in Chicago, composer, Stuart Folse (b. ca. 1960). Outstanding pianist from the Bay area, Sarah Cahill, performs New Jersey-born, George Antheil’s (1900 - 1959) Second Sonata (Airplane) (1931), Cuban-born, Tania Leon’s (b. 1943) Ritual (1987), and Trumpet of Angus Og (1918) by American icon, Henry Cowell (1897 - 1965). The legendary New Jersey Percussion Ensemble performs E&FA director, Robert Pollock’s (b. 1946) Chamber Setting #2 (1980). Influential composer and guitarist, William Anderson performs Fouad (2013) by Mexican composer, Emil Awad (b. 1963). Finally, Hawai‘i Symphony concert master, Ignace Jang, performs Solfeggietto #3 (1984) by French composer, Claude Baliff (1924-2004).
