简介
Through blending their vision and musical talent, Eagle & Hawk have created a progressive style of music that embraces their Native roots while building bridges of cultural understanding. Their leading role in defining the genre of contemporary Native music has earned them the respect of the Native and Non-Native communities alike. Envisioning a new sound that would combine modern rock with Native elements, guitarist and bandleader Vince Fontaine founded Eagle & Hawk in 1994. They soon journeyed from the ‘Indian City’ of Winnipeg, Manitoba to the capitals of Europe where they blasted onto countless stages with a powerful and effervescent live show that impressed their international audiences. Their 4th album, On and On, won a Juno Award in 2002 in the category of “Best Music of Aboriginal Canada”. In 2004, Eagle & Hawk’s 5th album Mother Earth earned yet another Juno nomination and brought home 4 awards including three Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards for “Best Song”, Best Songwriter” and “Best Album.” Determined to match, if not exceed, the success of their previous multi-award winning releases, Eagle & Hawk dug deep to write and record their latest album “Life Is...”. Once again, Eagle & Hawk offer up the entire spectrum of musical styles, human emotion, and spirit. By blending acoustic and electronic sounds laced with traditional Native imagery, they create a circle of sounds. The brand-new release just became their 3rd consecutive album to be nominated for a Juno Award and promises to continue the group’s unique success story. The front man on stage is lead vocalist Jay Bodner. His rich voice and stage charm have disarmed audiences from coast to coast in Canada, Europe and the United States. Since joining the band in 1998, Jay has not only contributed on stage, but has helped define Eagle & Hawk’s unique sound through his vocal and songwriting efforts. Rounding out the core of the band is the rhythmic backbone of bass player DJ St. Germain, drummer Steve Broadhurst, and Gerry Atwell on keys. Featured performers include multi-style traditional dancer Buffy Handel and traditional singer Ray (Coco) Stevenson who together, carry the visual and rhythmic beauty of Native culture. To date, Eagle & Hawk have toured Europe more than ten times and have entertained countless audiences across North America. The band has been performing at many annual festivals such as the Indian Summer Festival, the Cherokee Indian Fair, and various Folk festivals, to name a few. In 2005, they “rocked” the masses at the Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill in Ottawa; and in early 2006, they traveled all the way to Cannes, France to showcase their talent to music industry representatives from around the world. Since 1994, Canada’s Eagle & Hawk have continued as a leading sound in contemporary Native music. By infusing a mixture of modern rock, and a commitment to sharing a perspective on Native life, Eagle & Hawk have established themselves as a musical leader who’s live show is as energizing and irresistible as ever.
