Each day we are forced to wake to a new blog site, news brief or informant telling us that our favorite rap and hip-hop artists are not who they say they are. We are forced to listen to the bantering back and forth as the artist tries to defend him or herself against pictures, audio recordings and video recordings. We at Out The Bricks Records LLC have chosen to take a different approach. We have chosen to bring you a real artist with real music. Allow us to introduce the world to Big Blue. Big Blue was one of the original members of the Crips in Anniston, Alabama and though he is currently inactive, he is still respected in each of the Anniston communities because he was and remains to be real. At the height of his hustling career he was considered to be one of the most well-connected and respected distribution kingpins. One morning Big Blue woke and actually took notice to “the game”, how he had to live in it and the effects that it was having on the communities he was growing to love and decided that he wanted out. He left, without ever having a local, state or federal case pending against him. He left all the fame, notoriety and money behind for a new vision. He has always been a writer and a huge lover of hip-hop music. Big Blue is also an experienced drummer and has been playing since the age of five. He believed that hip-hip was and is the greatest form of music simply because it is the most expressive and there is no set format by which it must be created. So he merged his loves and an artist was born. An artist that has a simple vision: to speak to and for those who are voiceless and bring the connection back between the people and the music that they once loved: hip-hop. He credits artists such as 2Pac, Biggie, KRS-1, Public Enemy, Talib Kweli, TI, UGK, 8BALL & MJG, Outkast and such like artists as being inspirational to him wanting to truly fulfill what he knows is his calling. These artists never over-glorified what “the game” is. They spoke on it in a retrospective way and encouraged their listeners to avoid that path if at all possible and that is the message that he aims to push out again to a new generation of listeners. So you may not know who Big Blue is today, but with one listen of his music you will fall in love with hip-hop again.
