Laverne Mitchell with Unity as the title suggests is made up of Laverne Mitchell (me in my capacity as a solo artiste), and Unity, which in relation to this project comprises myself, Josia Latty and Donna-Marie Mitchell. Unity is not a fixed group as such, but a state of mind and other individuals often jump on and off the Unity train. Let me tell you a little about me - I have been singing since the age of 2, I was told. I remember singing in church from the age of 3. My song was "A Sunbeam - Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam", and I can still recall vividly rendering it to rapturous applaud and eager requests of "Encore". So music and singing has always been a part of my life, my siblings also being musically gifted. I grew up singing in church both as a soloist and as a member of numerous church bands. In my teens and twenties I was affiliated with various bands and artists, from time to time playing gigs all over London and the South East. In the meantime, the gift for lyric writing and song composition which had lain dormant behind a keen interest in writing poetry, began to develop and I started to pen songs, some of which were recorded. Then music was put on the back burner for many years whilst I pursued academic ambitions. During this time I decided to become more than just a church-goer and dedicated my life to Jesus Christ. As a natural progression, I became a Worship Leader - I still enjoy my ministry as a member of my church's Praise and Worship Team today. I am fully dedicated to the service of the Lord Jesus and feel privileged to be able to serve him in song. For many years now I have continued to receive inspiration to write songs which I have sung quietly to my Lord and to myself and family. Then finally came the vision and impetus to share them with the world and I hope that they will be a blessing. Josia Latty is a very talented musician/singer/songwriter in her own right and has enjoyed working and performing with some of the best musical minds in the country, amongst whom she is highly esteemed. She is a wonderful Christian young lady and a fellow Worship Leader whose contribution towards Unity and this particular project has been invaluable. Josia will certainly stamp her own unique mark on the Christian music scene in years to come - watch this space. Donna-Marie Mitchell is a gifted solo vocalist in her own right and a Worship Leader with whom I sang praise and worship for many years. She is also an anointed songwriter and composer. Donna-Marie loves the Lord Jesus with all her heart and lives to serve Him. And I have no doubt that He will lead her to her destiny in Him - so look out. Unity have been working together for a year now and in that time have performed at various events, including worship concerts and charity events. Our ethos is one of spreading love and unity between peoples and cultures. In our music we aim to empower, to heal, to encourage, and to save the lost just as our mentor Jesus Christ did, and our main purpose is to give Him all the glory. The beautiful moments of personal worship at the end of the track are not to be missed. • i-Worship, the title track is a beautiful personal worship song, which is anointed and will usher into that secret place. • Nothing Can Stop You, is motivational and strong – listen to it and be inspired or empowered to take the next small step or giant leap in your life. • How We Overcome, will get your head nodding, whether in agreement with its potent statements or through sheer appreciation of it melodic content. • We Worship (i-Worship Reprise), is simply a pleasure to listen to. You will want to repeat the experience over and over again. Just as a matter of interest our E-P cover photo was taken by me on a visit to Capernaum, Israel.
