Handed Down. . .true Vintage Libana! In honor of their 35th anniversary celebration as an enduring, intentional creative community exploring the music and dance of the women of the world, Libana had their very first Studio recording remastered --by the original engineer, Alan Mattes! Having been originally released on LP and cassette, it has been out of print for many, many years. It remains a personal favorite of most Libana members and we are delighted to have it available again for our listeners-- and we love how it sounds now! Originally released in 1985 when the group was 16 members, this recording harkens back to Libana's early years of world music exploration (before world music was even a recognizable genre!)-- celebrating the distinctive musical traditions of Eastern Europe and the Middle East. From Libana's signature Bulgarian choral sound to the compositions of Bela Bartok for women's voices. . . from the traditional dance music of Serbia and Greece to the folk melodies of Armenia, Lebanon and Israel. . .this music gives voice to women's joys, sorrows, dreams and passions; creative expressions of a past that is profoundly contemporary.
