简介
“Mallery’s lovely guitar-driven score enhances the impeccable sense of place.” - Variety “Fantastic soundtrack.” - Video Views “A gentle and evocative score.” - Now Playing Magazine "Aerial shots are dramatized by the Celtic-tinged music of Billy Mallery, creating the feeling that the island is perched on the edge of the world." - The Wire . . . . . . . . . . . . . INCLUDES EXTENDED TRACKS, NEW PERFORMANCES and MUSIC FROM DELETED SCENES . . . . . . . . . . . . . Having composed and produced many heavily layered scores, I have to mention how great it was to simply pick up instruments and just jam on many parts of this soundtrack, and often go with the first take. The lap dulcimer has become a favorite instrument of mine, and its sound and vibe felt perfect for this film. It has somewhat of a Celtic feel to it, which seemed appropriate considering the remoteness of this island culture. It also feels very American to me, lending a grass-roots and Appalachian element. And so we went with it as the main instrument, mixed with acoustic and electric guitars, cello and accordion. Early on I remember starting a cue on the piano, but I soon realized that this isn't a piano score at all... this thing needs to be strummed and plucked and bowed all the way, to enhance the rawness and ruggedness of the culture and the story. It was a joy to collaborate musically with the director and my good friend Ian McCrudden on some of the tracks. "Five Years" will go down as one of my favorite sessions ever, as we simultaneously composed and performed it in just one take (including the unplanned meter change). "Grace" and "Clean Slate" will always be close to my heart as well. And I think his song "Start Over" (featuring Greg Wood on guitar; produced by P. Daniel Newman) is the perfect ending to both the film and and soundtrack. Very special thanks to Cristian Delano (guitar), Cameron Stone (cello) and Dito Montiel (guitar) for contributing amazing performances on the score. They most certainly brought the music to another level, and for that I am grateful. - B Mallery
