Savage Dreams is the long-awaited sequel to the 2003 album Savage Beauty, performed by the Virtual Reality Band. This band is a digital fantasy group created by me, which has prompted accusations of multiple personality disorder. We are not amused. Yes, the members of the group are "virtual", so they exist only in the realm of the imagination. But each performer has a distinct personality and approach to his instrument. The bass player is passionate and lyrical (somebody said he won't shut up); the flutist has Native American street cred; the guitarist is all over the map; and the drummer, well that's me, re-enacting my teenage years as a drummer, but with a 21st-century sensibility. This album was totally improvised, track by track. Almost every track was recorded in a single take. Nothing was planned ahead or written down. We're talking about a tight band here. The style of this music is somewhere in the tags: chill, downtempo, ambient (but not too much), and improvisational. A style one hopes will bear repeated listenings. Take it on a road trip.
