A man, a guitar and an eager apprentice. 13 years ago our paths crossed, Benny “Burle” Galloway, Alice, and me, and the course of my life was significantly altered. In honor of the man and his music, I recorded 10 songs in the summer and fall of 2013, just his guitar, Alice, and me. Songs he wrote, songs we made up together, and songs I heard for the first time when he taught them to me. I recorded them live, often in one or two takes, in the homegrown studio a little upriver from my home in the Rockfish Valley, Nelson County, Virginia.
