While there have been countless covers of songs by the Doors, this take on "Riders" sets itself apart with its musical and vocal inventiveness, while keeping true to the urgency and moodiness associated with this seminal rock band. Saxon and producer Michael McGregor are the heart of the rhythm section on guitar and keys. respectively, and they effortlessly create a novel version of "Riders" that is musically hip and off-the-charts cool. Los Angeles based alto sax player, Reinhold Schwarzwald (who's opened for the late great Ray Charles and jazz star Chris Botti and played with Kirk Whalum, Hugh Masakela, Patrice Rushen, etc.), delivers a majestic and memorable solo.

The track is the first single from Saxon's CD, Blujanova (Relevant Records RR 70713) and is one of three covers (and 7 originals) done in this compelling blujanova style.

The chameleonic New Jersey based artist Saxon has been likened to such artists as Bill Withers, Paul Carrack, Bobby Caldwell and Michael McDonald. But no matter what the comparisons are, Saxon’s vocal gifts are undeniable. IAE Magazine (I Am Entertainment) called it “a great voice” and a Minor 7th reviewer took it a bit further when they described Saxon as having ”…a voice that is utterly disarming...”.
