简介
Recorded live and collaboratively between all the musicians, the project features regional luminaries George Mitchell, Dan Schulte, Charlie Doggett, and John Nastos, along with vocals by Kirsten Rian. A collection of tunes by composers Rian’s mother loved, the album was recorded as authentically as possible without digital “fixing” and each tune was landed in under three takes. All the musicians on the album are long-time fixtures in the Pacific Northwest, and the tunes reflect a sensitivity and confidence that only comes with knowing one’s instrument well. Allison’s Uncle and L’Impossible are instrumental pieces, and the remaining tunes feature Rian’s vocals. Why Are We Afraid is an obscure Andre Previn tune from the 1958 film The Subterraneans. Instrumental versions were recorded by Gerry Mulligan and Art Pepper, but to the quintet’s knowledge, this is the first released version with vocals.
