简介
Zakki Jawad,a.k.a. Zedicus, is an Ethiopian born musician based in the Washington DC area, and has been performing in world music and reggae circles for over 18 years. Currently a member of seminal Ethio-fusion group, Admas, this is his first solo release. Zakki has spent a good deal of his life living in different countries around the world (in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and North America), experiences resulting in the broad range of styles and influences evident on this album. This CD is a conglomeration of songs falling under reggae and world music banners, with several tracks(5) currently on regular rotation on 'The Joint' (XM Satellite Radio). 'Performing Songwriter' magazine, a nationally available publication, included this well-received debut in it's 'Top 12 Independent Releases' section of the July/August '06 issue. The review is available online at performingsongwriter.com. Check it out for an industry take on this impressive body of work from a world musician. Internationally acclaimed reggae/world music magazine, 'The Beat' has also included a review of 'Zedicus' in its annual Bob Marley Collectors Issue (Summer '06). Zakki has performed and/or recorded with world renowned artists such as Maxi Priest (UK), the Itals (Jamaica), Omar Hakim (US), Jean-Marie Tala (Cameroon), HR (from Bad Brains)(US), Dave Wakeling (English Beat/General Public)(UK),Midnite (VI), Gigi, Mahmoud Ahmed, Aster Aweke (Ethiopia), and opened for major acts such as Third World, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown, Mutabaruka, Steel Pulse, Toots & the Maytals, Alpha Blondy, the Wailers and Lucky Dube. Zedicus performs regularly in and around Washington with his band, dubbed 'Zedicus andAbyssinia Roots'. The shows are energetic and fun, and over time have resulted in a devoted fan base. This solo project follows the completion of two albums by Admas, the critically acclaimed 'Indigo Sun', and the second (produced by legendary producer Bill Laswell), yet to be released. The follow up album to the eponymous 'Zedicus' is currently in production stages. No title for the sophomore release yet.
