American composer, Maria Newman, is the daughter of 9-time Oscar-winning film composer and celebrated Hollywood Bowl Orchestra conductor, Alfred Newman, and she has become a much-noted composer of concert music, music for the ballet, and silent film. Ms. Newman's compositions have been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and the Grawemeyer Award on numerous accounts, and she has received honors from the US Congress, the California State Senate and Assembly, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her original music library consists of over 150 works. Scott Hosfeld is the Founder, Music Director and Conductor of the Malibu Coast Chamber Orchestra, as well as the founding violist of the Malibu Coast String Quartet. Honored for his work by the US Congress, Hosfeld has conducted internationally for such concert soloist greats as Nathaniel Rosen, Camilla Wicks, Andrew Shulman, Paul Coletti and Steven Doane. Hosfeld is conductor of the Eastern Sierra Summer Chamber Symphony, and the Southern California Viola Choir. The Malibu Coast Chamber Orchestra and Soloists is comprised of internationally recognized chamber musicians and soloists. The MCCO performs regularly on the Kairos Musical Soirees at the Montgomery Arts House for Music and Architecture, and is resident ensemble of the Malibu Coast Music Festival in Malibu, California. In addition to traditional concert performances, the orchestra presents performances of live music to silent film. The MCCO has recorded three full length albums for the Montgomery Arts House Masterworks Recordings label, featuring important soloists from the US, Canada, Asia and Europe. Works from these albums have been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and the Grawemeyer Award.
