简介

Songwriting is an art form. It's the art for which I have this inexhaustible passion. I have a day job and at the end of a really long day, I still sit and pour music and my will into this laptop computer until late in the night. I write songs that try to pass along a message, some of which are hidden at first, even to me. Chasing You through Time: What if when we die, we don’t go to a good place or a bad place or return as a cow or a chicken or a wombat, but instead we return and live the same life over… and over… perhaps many times until we finally get it right? Maybe forever. Finding Nevada: A young man lets go of his dreams and strikes out alone, starting over with his own two hands. I'll Be Your Man: A love song told through the lives of a young couple; a musician and an actor sharing an apartment in New York City during Hurricane Sandy. Where The Men Have Gone: A song for and about the women who are truly left behind as they outlive their husbands and boyfriends. Merciless: G.I. Gurdjieff, speaking as the main character in his book, "Beelzebub's Tales to His Grandson", repeatedly refers to the passage of time as "The Merciless Heropass." Ganja Tea: Gurdjieff's story of the magician who hypnotized his flock of sheep to keep them from going astray, set to a reggae beat with a subliminal call for the acceptance of medical marijuana. I am a medical doctor and a cancer survivor and I speak from the stage when I perform this song and tell everyone who will listen that I believe this plant offers significant relief for many suffering people. Cocaine Road: A modern morality play with boundary issues, drugs, prostitution, kinky sex and violent death. No Angel: That tattooed girl with the piercings and the hangover. Running from a demon. Gunning for the meaning ... Any Old Train: Was it me you wanted? Or just the security under my roof? Driving With Alzheimer's: I've been a geriatric psychiatrist for many years. The characters in this musical comedy skit are based on real people I have known who did not go quietly into that night. Eternity In Blue: My first excursion into exploring Nietzsche and Ouspensky's thoughts on the idea of eternal recurrence; where we live the same life over, maybe forever or until we get it right (Ground Hog Day, remember?) I was recovering from that bout with cancer when I wrote Eternity In Blue. It is still my most requested musical work. Flying Catfish Blues: Putting my life back together after a "life threatening brush with death", I sought help in many directions and repeatedly I was blessed to meet many gentle, enlightened human beings who all seemed to take delight in smiling and saying, "Don't take all this too seriously". This version of Flying Catfish Blues was done old school with just three friends standing a single microphone in the middle of my kitchen. I hope you take interest in my work; not just for the music or the funny songs or the experience of hanging out with us at our next gig, but for being open to new ideas - not because new ideas are valid (they might not be) but because thinking about new ideas keeps us from freezing up and dying inside long before our bodies are done. Let us be courageous and face a new sunrise. Thank you so much. Gene Reid Little Rock, Arkansas, USA 2014
