Paper Trails are an electro indie-pop duo from Los Angeles. Multi-instrumentalist David Duarte and singer-songwriter Meesha Black's mission is simple - make music that attaches itself to your subconscious. Rhythms with dark edges, harmonies and hooks that make you want to return for more. Playing guitar in a number of indie rock bands, David wanted to set course for a new direction. He began work on tracks that were more keyboard driven. Though his influences run from Led Zeppelin to Radiohead and all roads around and in between, the sirens call sounded more like Depeche Mode. He was crafting melodies and chords, writing and producing entire tracks. But if writers often think of their songs as their children, these were children without voices. He had control of his music, but the flame sparked from collaboration still beckoned.

Meesha's influences are also disparate - Etta James, the Beatles, PJ Harvey, Pixies, Jenny Lewis. From an early age it simply wasn't enough to just love the music, she had to be a part of it. She had to make it, she had to perform it. She started out in punk bands and continues to front multiple projects. David was working on songs he had played around with for years, and was looking for a singer and co-conspirator. A mutual acquaintance connected them. Meesha improvised on a track that would become "Everything" and it felt just right. She added melodic ideas and helped write and flesh the songs out. As they continued to work together, Meesha brought some of her own songs to David, seeking his arranging and producing touch. Their collabrative evolution continues. Meesha's lyrics are haunted ciphers of love lost, regret, and renewal. David builds on all the music that has become a part of his DNA; classic rock, indie rock, synth-pop, atmospheric post-rock and post-punk. The tracks drift along on pop hooks, yet are weighted by the whispers of shadows and demons. Darkness and light. The fragile spaces in between. Where they meet is where Paper Trails find their rapture.
