Urania is a songwriter and performer originally from Madrid, Spain who now makes Fort Worth, Texas home. Urania’s view of songwriting is to capture real emotions and deliver them in musically interesting formats wide audiences can identify with. Like most artists, the majority of Urania's song ideas come from her personal experiences, which translate into songs that reflect a modern western woman's life journey. Influenced by several generations of music, in particular late 60's British Pop-Rock, Urania models herself after female rockers like Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, Janis Joplin and Courtney Love. Exposed to the music business at a very early age through her father who was a music teacher, Big Band Jazz leader, songwriter and producer, Urania rebelled against becoming part of the business after the death of her father. Finally realizing what a huge part of herself she was rejecting, Urania re-connected with her creative vein and began writing poetry and songs to develop the artist in her. This awakening caused a tremor in her personal life that coincided with her moving to Los Angeles, California. While in Los Angeles, she studied and worked at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood receiving a Certificate in Commercial Recording. There she developed friendships and was heavily influenced by indie bands Death to Anders and The Happy Hollows. The Los Angeles area music scene broadened her musical visions and deepened her resolve to develop her personal brand of musical expression. Her early works were light punk styled pop-rock, with fun and catchy lyrics (There's No Parking in L.A., I'd Rather Be Here), but she has grown into a more sophisticated rocker who delivers meaningful messages with angst and commitment.
