简介
Down To The Roots – In his fifth solo album since the disbanding of The Youngbloods in 1973, Banana has come into his own with sterling songs that delve into the roots that formed his musical landscape. From down-‘n-dirty blues to rollicking good times, Banana presents a varied palette of colorful stories paired with irresistible melodies and rhythms. His vocals deliver sincerity, warmth and humor and are solidly supported by engaging instrumental arrangements. To top off the quality of “Down To the Roots” sound, Banana utilizes many gems from his collection of vintage acoustic instruments. . Banana’s multi-instrumental prowess is evident throughout the album, playing piano, guitar, tenor guitar, 5-string tenor guitar, and banjo. Additionally, on the recording of “Down To The Roots”, Banana is blessed with talented old friends who add their inspiring contributions including Ry Cooder, David Grisman, Barry “The Fish” Melton, and many others who make guest appearances. From the smoky bar in “Married To The Blues” to the sound advice of “Love Is A Five Letter Word” to the hilarious lamentation “The Blues My Naughty Sweetie Gives To Me” the music digs in and never stops swinging, fueled by Lowell’s own gritty and stirring vocals. “Like A Road”, “Corrina Corrina”, and “Precious Gold” maintain the groove with soothing comfort. Yet, Levinger can rouse us with songs that influenced his early years like "Blue Monday" and “If You Got To Make A Fool of Somebody”. "Down To The Roots” will leave you happy, energized and ready to listen again. After founding The Youngbloods with Jesse Colin Young, Joe Bauer and Jerry Corbitt in 1965 and playing with the band for its entire career, Levinger has enjoyed a rich musical life. Perhaps his longest engagement was touring worldwide with Mimi Fariña for over 20 years. But Banana has also served as one of The Knockouts with Norton Buffalo, was the lead singer and keyboardist for Zero for over ten years and has played many gigs with Dan Hicks, David Grisman, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Peter Rowan, David Nelson, Barry Melton, Steve Kimock, and many other notable artists. Banana tours Europe and the UK regularly as a solo act, enjoys playing with his hometown band in Northern California and is currently booking gigs nationally in support of his new CD. Levinger is also working on the next project “Banana Remembers The Youngbloods”, a retrospective of classic Youngbloods songs.
