rudimentary earns its name honestly and lives up to VASS's self-proclaimed style, which he denotes "organically grown" music. The album is a result of countless solo writing and recording sessions and is void of the overuse of modern processing and editing techniques. VASS says his early work and life experiences, both around the house and farm, as well as in his first "real job" at the early age of thirteen, groomed him to be self-motivated and to work alone. This "loner" mentality proved to be a lifelong mode and something that carried over into his career as a songwriter. He also admits that, though he received an invaluable religious and moral base, he always felt a little "different" from his strict, southern-baptist household, which led him to be a "thinker" and to question everything.

Introspective thoughts, an independent lifestyle, and a life steeped in music and "country living," all can be found in rudimentary's music and lyrics.
