简介

The debut release from Madeline Tasquin, a 4 song EP plus instrumental interludes, represents the more orchestral side of this Canadian-Californian songstress' musical mind. Backed by strings, upright bass, lush vocal harmonies, accordion, celeste, electric guitar, musical saw and a sparse percussive approach, Madeline's 2009 and 2010 compositions for piano and ukulele spring to life, teetering playfully on the edge between Pop and Classical music from the Romantic era. Elements of Tasquin's diverse musical influences can be heard woven into the 18 minutes of music that comprise this collection... the counterpuntal rhythms of Joanna Newsom, the humanist lyrical themes of Bjork, the adventurous aura of Danny Elfman's film scores, and the joyous melancholy of Edith Piaf. “…A CREATIVE TOUR DE FORCE.” -- Tony DuShane, [Bandwidth] SF Chronicle. "…A CREATIVE TORRENT ON THE VERGE OF BREAKING FREE.” -- Dennis Cook's Top 12 Debuts of 2012 on Dirty Impound Music Blog Madeline Tasquin was raised by creeks and rivers. The daughter of a gold miner and an opera singer, she spent the first ten years of her life in Quesnel, BC skipping stones, hunting for agates, ice skating and building tin can watermills along the rivers of the Cariboo region. The rushing waters of her childhood are woven into the symbolic language of Madeline’s songwriting; shores crumbling, rafts made of willow, the frozen surface, the water that rushes below, an inevitable arrival at the sea… and enveloping her lyrics is the unique harmonic language that characterizes her work; akin to water in its complexity & consistency. This compelling harmonic language, the passion & humanism that shine through her music, and the presence she offers her audiences both on and off stage, make Madeline Tasquin exciting to follow as her music morphs and develops. But perhaps what makes Madeline Tasquin most exciting to follow as an artist is her declared mission to keep growing creatively, constantly expanding into new realms. Coupled with the ambition of her various projects, her lifelong-learning approach is both refreshing and fun to watch. She has organized and embarked on three solo tours of Europe, each time planned and themed for a different season. After years of playing piano and ukulele, she took up the guitar in 2014 and began performing jazz and French songs. Recently she traveled to Montreal to study the art of clown with master clown Francine Côté. She’s been learning to play her guitar while walking on stilts. She’s started composing a multilingual jazz opera. She started MusicMade Collective with 5 other Bay Area groups and released a compilation album via BandCamp. She occasionally invites her fans to join a “secret choir” as a surprise for unsuspecting show attendees. She recently wrote a 1920s style vocal trio adaptation of Drake’s hit song “Too Good.” She has assembled and led a host of bands in the Bay Area for her various shows and tours. She’s unabashed about trying out brand new songs on her audiences, meaning that no two shows are alike. All this experimentation amidst a demanding schedule as a gigging musician supporting herself in the Bay Area, teaching, performing and recording with High Sierra Music Festival kids stage favorites The Bug Family Band, and frequently performing as a solo artist or leading a band for private events singing French music or jazz standards.
