William Schimmel is a prolific composer as well as a world class accordionist. His music follows a wide range of genres and styles. He has worked with the Classic Tango, has altered the way we perceive the Accordion and has invented the philosophy of Music Reality which explores the use of pre-existing music in a contemporary way, yet continuing the grand tradition of Liszt and Busoni. Concerto Bullo is a Punk Concerto exploring the use of Rossini-like gestures, Tango rhythms and basic harmonic structures that highlight the Punk sensibilities: obsessive repetitions, steady heavy pulse and rondo like returns - all in a one movement concerto for Solo Accordion. Concerto Bullo was written for and is performed by Erica Marie Mancini, a Brooklyn based artist who has studied with Dr. Schimmel as she pursued her degree in sociology and musicology at New York University’s Gallitan School of Individualized Study.
