This album is my debut solo album and has taken me nearly 3 years to make with the help of my friend Brandon Joseph (who you should also check out!). It deals primarily with many challenges I've had to face over the past few years and how I plan to overcome them. Many of the tracks have lots of different musical influences. I grew up listening to almost every kind of music and I love it all, so I try to pay tribute to that in my music. So here's each track. Music (Sets You Free) is a song about the simple fact that through music, I've been able to be whoever I want to be and live any way I want to. Music has set me free, and I hope that it does for you as well! Basic Instinct is about a few things. First and almost most obvious is how I feel when I'm on stage performing. The second is about beginning something new and the pressure you feel about doing so. When all else fails, all you have left is your instinct and you shouldn't be afraid of it. You should embrace it and trust it. In the end, everything comes down to how you personally feel about any situation and you shouldn't ever run away from your own feelings and opinions. Listen to My Heart pretty much stems out of the familiar feeling I think most of us feel when we like someone who hasn't really noticed us back. It's about letting that person know how you're feeling. When it Rains follows in the same steps as Listen to My Heart, but in a more intense feeling. It's about loving someone who seems to float through different troubling relationships without ever considering you as an option. You're always there for them, but you're getting tired of always being the friend who they can lean on. Monster is about betrayal by someone who you thought you could trust, but has instead backstabbed you. I wont go into details about who and what situation inspired this song, but I will say since writing it karma has come back at them. Anyhow, it's still a great F*&K YOU song, haha. Fantasy is about that one Fantasy person that you hope to run into everyday. It's a fun upbeat song that I personally love to dance around to. Burn, Baby Burn is a song inspired by a poem written by my sister. It's a song of betrayal and lost love. It's also about moving on and telling that person and the memories of that person to disappear so you can move on. I've made me mistakes, now let me move on with my life. This song also was inspired by some of the country music I grew up with. Stand Up! was written at a time I was particularly annoyed with the current politics of today. I hate feeling like I don't have a voice in our country, and that the personal agendas of a few people are controlling the freedoms our country is supposed to protect. But beyond that, what infuriates me the more is the complacency of the American people as we face these troubling times. We need to stand up for what's right, and we have to stop those who are trying to take away our rights as free citizens. Behind Closed Doors is something kind of straight out of my diary. I am an openly gay man and this song is about the feelings I felt and the feelings other's I know felt when coming out of the closet. Leap of Faith is about just that... taking a leap of faith. In this song I'm letting people know that I am ready to move on to greater and brighter things. This song also calls back into some Musical Theatre influences since that is another passion of mine. The whole song was recorded in about 4 takes so that it sounds as natural and sincere as possible. I really hope you enjoy the album! :)
