The singer finally singing her songs...or in this case, the songs of an artist whose music was part of the soundtrack of my youth. I've been singing all my life, from choir, to musical theater, to bands. I finally decided to record my first LP, covering the songs of Gordon Lightfoot, a premier folk/rock artist from the 60s and 70s. I saw Gordon featured on a Sunday morning news program many months back and it struck me that this is the music I wanted to record for my first effort in the studio. This is music to touch the heart and soul. Produced and accompanied, in part, by Jim Reilley, an incredibly gifted songwriter and guitarist and cofounder of The New Dylans, whose work has been recognized by Rolling Stone, Village Voice, and CD Review, as well as, very recently, by The Tennessean. I couldn't have asked for a better team of folks with whom to make this record. Released in late 2014, the album saw good success initially via cd sales, downloads and lots of internet radio airplay, playing in rotation with artists from Joan Baez, to Simon & Garfunkel, Karen Carpenter, and Linda Ronstadt, along with other singing greats in various genres . The first single released off of the album, “All the Lovely Ladies,” is gaining some good traction, having been awarded best song of the month in its genre from The Akademia Music Awards. It is currently airing on stations in both the Berkshire Media Group and on Power FM, as well as, most recently, on Beyond the Dawn Radio, featured on their New Music Monday program on January 25, 2016. “Song for a Winter’s Night” was featured on the holiday playlist on Women of Substance Radio and was in the Top 20 Songs for December, as voted by Women of Substance Listeners. Three releases—“All the Lovely Ladies (Acoustic), “If You Could Read My Mind, and “Shadows,” are currently charting nationally on NumberOneMusic.com (http://www.numberonemusic.com/barbaraj). Fans of easy listening, with smooth, rich vocals, will enjoy this compilation of songs. Some songs here you will recognize, and some new ones you will surely now remember.
