Ryan Walker-Smith, otherwise known as Gk Nesso, is an emerging rapper born in Toronto, Ontario. He spent most of his life relocating around the city while being raised in a strict, single-parent household by his mother who worked diligently to ensure that the principles of hard work and determination were prominent features in Ryan’s character. Ryan was introduced to music at a very young age, where he not only took piano lessons, but at the age of 13 he wrote his first rap. Looking up to artists such as Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne and Michael Jackson for inspiration, Ryan began developing his own style. “The rise of Biggie and Pac was before my time. I caught only their later mainstream hits. 50 cent & Game were the B.I.G and Pac of my era In my opinion. Those were the two artist who really blew up big from the east and west coast and it made me look deeper into hip hop because I saw them both Rise to the top”. Ryan attended Sinclair Secondary School in Durham, Ontario, where him and his friends formed a local rap crew called the “Goodkidz”. They started off by remixing mainstream hits, where they would take instrumentals and record their own vocals on top of the beat. At this point, Ryan decided he wanted to take music seriously, so he began putting out his own mixtapes, this is where Gk Nesso was born. As his name began to linger around the Durham Region, Gk Nesso began to realize that in order to follow in the footsteps of his idols he would need to accumulate his own money and push his own music independently. In 2013 he put his music on hold and boldly made the decision to relocate out west, where he would work night in and night out at the oil patch industry. Accomplishing what he set out to do in Alberta, Gk Nesso came back home in early 2015. Hungrier than ever and with enough funds, Gk Nesso built his own studio and got his own record label, ASNC Records off the ground.
