简介
“This project has been an intense journey leading me by all these different musicians with different styles and insights. During this trip I got to know myself and my music in a completely different way. Lessons have been learned, patience has been tested. But I've made it. This EP is the final chapter.” This says 27-year old Dirk-Jan Smit, whose musical alter-ego Dear John proudly presents this EP ‘When The Morning Comes’. Dear John is a singer-songwriter whose music is close to that of co-musicians like Amos Lee, surfer-dudes like Jack Johnson and Matt Costa, as well as Jason Mraz and G. Love. His catchy pop and thought-through acoustic rock build a repertoire of songs about hope, traveling, light-heartedness, love and vibes of the good life. These are beautiful stories which, in combination with fine rhythms and feel-good melodies, lead to lovely and personal songs, with the beauty of a city that awakens on a warm spring day and the pleasantness of a deep-pile carpet under your bare feet. ‘When The Morning Comes’ is a colorful EP which took almost a year to be completed. In total, more than 25 highly diverging background musicians and vocalists contributed: from different drummers and percussionists to multiple bass-players, to a handful of guitarists and even a cellist. The provoking backing vocals, subtle dosed guitar solos and even an arrangement for wind instruments reveal an amount of expertise that lift the songs to a professional and appealing level. The recordings for ‘When The Morning Comes’ took place in small and even smaller studios, bedrooms, cozy living rooms and dingy, underground basements. Resulting in sincere and positive songs that are catchy and cheerful in a way that is rarely seen today.
