Originally released via the Idjut Boys Disc Function label, 'Too Shiny' is Akwaaba's second long player. Second album of this production crew that combines twisted disco - as championed by discfunction label heads IDJUT BOYS - with their own blend of spaced out funk and afro sounds. This album is just packed with trippy dub dancing that is reminiscent of early 80s New York sound and still championed by Francois K. and the likes. Consisting of Paul Murphy, Tom Lee and Steve Kotey, the trio also isn't short of experience, and naturally you'd expect the odd choice sample from someone of Murphy's longevity. But in fact it's the live breaks and organic sounds, supplied by a troop of musicians, that gives Akwaaba the edge. Akwaaba, by the way, means welcome in Ghana.
