简介
2012 touches three corners of the musical world that is special to Callum as a classical guitarist. The first is the lute works of Johann Sebastian Bach, here arranged for the guitar. The Prelude, Fugue and Allegro form a balanced, deep and profound expression of Bach's late style. The centrepiece Fugue is a fantasia-like exploration of a deceptively simple theme and is one of very few of Bach's Fugues to have a da capo ending. The second corner is much closer to home, both historically and geographically. Australian composer, Nigel Westlake (b. 1958), wrote the work for Australian classical guitarist, Tim Kain. It makes use of digital delay, so that the rhythms and "riffs" topple over each other as the piece ebbs and flows to surprising crescendos and moments of repose. The last corner, Spain, which is considered the birthplace of the guitar, provides a lively, vibrant and virtuosic close to the EP. Vicente Asencio incorporates Catalan folk song themes into a series of intimate, emotional pieces that exploit a wide range of techniques on the guitar.
