简介
ABOUT CURL'S NEW CD, UNDER THE TABLE WINE: CURL is Helen Davies (lead vocals and guitar), Susan Johnson (bass) and Dee Cooper (keyboards). They are joined on this recording by Andy Okell on drums and Jazz Fouladianpour on guitar. Guest spots go to Bill Johnson on lead guitar, Gene Hardy on tenor and baritone saxophone and Ross Hall (drums on Wee Dark Hours). When CURL decided to record a second CD, they selected songs about love, life and loss. The end result is Under the Table Wine, a diverse collection of original modern blues-jazz and funk style crossovers. CURL’s recording process for Under the Table Wine saw collaborations with some top-notch professional musicians, resulting in a CD that puts them in line for widespread recognition. The title track is a toe-tapping tune reminiscent of forties swing, embellished by the saxophone stylings of Canadian horn master Gene Hardy. It tells the story of unlikely, drunken love. Wee Dark Hours, a powerful blues lament about love and loss, showcases an emotional guitar solo by Canada’s talented bluesman, Bill Johnson. The CD ends with a cover of Aretha Franklin’s rollicking 60s hit, Won’t Be Long. Under the Table Wine is poised to be a breakout CD for this hard-working and talented band. CRITIC'S PICK! With Davies' forceful vocals, Johnson's rock solid bass and Cooper's imaginative keyboard work, this is a very impressive collection - John Valenteyn, Toronto-based blues columnist, co-founder of the Toronto Blues Society, radio host on CIUT.FM.
