Tom Burgess is a Basildon born, Southend-based singer songwriter who learnt guitar aged 13 by practising Oasis songs. He then concluded that he'd had enough of playing other people's songs and started to write his own. His songs were met with much appreciation from his peers in the local music scene. Following this he was dragged by a certain Tophatted Seasider to perform at 'the Cobra Club' at the Sunrooms hosted by Mark Schubert and then Shangri-la at The Railway Hotel with Lance Cusack. Tom then formed 'The Mod Cons' and took up the duties of Lead Singer and Songwriter, after playing the big venues in Southend The Mod Cons recorded their first album but disbanded before it was released due to 'musical similarities'. It was once commented that Tom was Southend’s answer to "Badly Drawn Boy".
