The Amen Choir's inspirational story began in Burundi during the 1992 civil war. Many refugees made it out of the Burundi to refugee camps in Tanzania and elsewhere, but as in Rwanda, many did not. The families of the Choir members have made their way to the United States, and through determination they have come from all over the US to live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Their struggles have made their faith and their resolve stronger, and the uplifting music on their first CD says a lot about the strength of the human spirit. Their songs tell us stories of their journeys, send greetings to their families and friends still in Africa, and provide an exciting and exceptional look into the culture of East Africa.
