简介
This song and poem were the final creations of a remarkable young woman shortly before her passing. Despite severe physical limitations caused by Rett Syndrome, Karly composed piano music, wrote poetry, blogged, gave keynote speeches, and was wise and loving friend to many. In the spring of 2012 Karly's health took a turn for the worse. She told her mother that she would be "gone by the end of summer." In her final months, Karly labored diligently to finish her final composition with the help of her music therapist, Karen Bohnert. Her last poem, "The Invitation" is read here by her mother, Lois Swope. Karly passed in the light on August 20, 2012, surrounded by her family. The composition was premiered at her memorial service and the poem was distributed to her friends and family. Pianist Phil Kadidlo, who played the song at Karly's service, honored her song by playing it here -- first as it was written and then with his own improvisational genius. After listening to his improvisation in the recording studio, music therapist Karen Bohnert exclaimed, "That is how Karly would have written music if she didn't have to do it one note at a time over a year!" Phil found Karly's "voice" once more -- this time, free from her challenging body. It is full of wings and joy and blessings from the place she knew she was going: The Light.
