My music can mostly be described as contemporary Australian folk. I have a country flavour in my song Westbound Train and a blues feel in The Office Blues. I like to tell stories through my songs drawing inspiration from my own life experience (The Only Colour That I See Today and Goodnight My Friend), or from other people's stories (Bones at the Bottom of the Bay). Bones at the Bottom of the Bay is a historical song about one of Australia's worst industrial disasters in 1970 - the collapse of Melbourne's Westgate Bridge. It is a tribute to the men who died, those who were injured and their loved ones who were left behind. In the Woods is a bit different to the rest of my songs. It could be described as world music in feel and moody in both the lyrics and the musical arrangement. I also have some light hearted and silly tunes too (see The First Aid Song and Noodlin' Around). The First Aid song was inspired by me fainting during a weekend of First Aid training after my partner Michael role played someone choking. I grew up listening to a lot of Irish and other Celtic folk music and I love to both listen to and sing songs with little accompaniment so I have included one traditional song on the CD called Once Loved a Boy.
