Songs written by members of the Hope College Worship Team for our Fall 2015 series through The Beatitudes (Matthew 5). The beatitudes are a poetic condensation of The Sermon on the Mount - the central place where Christ teaches what it means to be a part of the Kingdom of God. As we were planning this series we had a difficult time finding modern worship songs that could support this beautiful text. I invited a few students into a couple of songs that I was working on and within literally a few days we had these songs. It's been powerful to meditate on these new songs as we've travelled through this fall full of the refugee crises and the attacks in Paris and elsewhere. The beatitudes have been a centering reminder of what life truly is when it exists within God's kingdom. May these songs encourage you as we worship through the Advent season 2015.
