Chillin' in New Hampshire was written by Nick Drozdoff when he was visiting his daughter her freshman year in college in Hanover, New Hampshire. He wrote the piece with hollow body electric guitar, drums and vintage electric piano in mind for the slightly retro sound to back his flugelhorn and trumpet solo work. On drums is Peter Manheim. On guitar is Sam Hasting. Drozdoff's son, Colin Drozdoff is playing the vintage Wurlitzer electric piano. Nick Drozdoff is playing a Getzen 4 valve Eterna flugelhorn and a vintage 1971 Doc Severinsen Large Bore model Eterna trumpet, also by Getzen. Drozdoff plays a signature custom line of Wedge trumpet mouthpieces. The style of this tune is mellow smooth jazz/funk. It starts with a cadenza and then states the subtle little hook melody. After three solos the tune comes back in for the big burn to the end. It is basically a long crescendo from start to finish with a sudden diminuendo at the very end. The tune was recorded as part of the bands first video project (you can find it on Youtube) and was recorded live in Shirk Studios in Chicago with Stephen Shirk running the mix live.
