简介
Emerging out of the Wilkes-Barre ,PA music scene, k8 (pronounced “Kate”) is a breath of fresh air that today’s music has been desperately seeking. Combining acoustic rock and folk with elements of pop, this singer/songwriter has the ability to evoke a deep set of emotions and simultaneously provide uniquely upbeat music. Her songs consist of a bittersweet mixture of poignant lyrics and a powerful, expressive voice that truly conveys the range of emotions in her songs. With her debut EP, Something Out of Nothing , k8 is ready to break all barriers and prove her worth as an immensely talented musician. Released in July 2004, Something Out of Nothing has created a great deal of excitement and anticipation. Alan Stout from The Times Leader in Wilkes-Barre raves about k8’s new EP: “This is one of the best regionally released albums ever and is just as good, if not better, than any major-label release you will hear this year. Great singing, great songs, great production. Great album.” Since picking up her first guitar at 17, k8 has been persistently writing and performing music – resulting in her debut release. Comprised of an assortment of upbeat, high-energy songs and tender ballads about the struggles of life and love, Something Out of Nothing was recorded at Saturation Acres Studio in Danville ,PA. Having been produced by Bret Alexander and Paul Smith (The Badlees, Breaking Benjamin, Darcie Miner), k8’s EP is an elaborate endeavor featuring a studio band that completes her songs’ full potential and justly represents her talent. k8 was recently given an opportunity to contribute to an exciting new project with MTV called the Lit Riffs Soundtrack . The MTV Lit Riffs is a book of short stories inspired by classic songs while the soundtrack, released in late June 2004, features each of the songs performed by current Pennsylvania musicians. k8, the only female voice on the project, is featured with Eric James on Lou Reed’s song “I Found a Reason.” Although Something Out of Nothing is her first solo release, k8 is no novice; she has been playing and making music since the age of six. Recently k8’s music has been inspired by musicians Alice Peacock, Patty Griffin, Beth Hart, and the Indigo Girls. Her earlier influences, she jokingly admits, were Debbie Gibson and Michael Jackson. k8 realized even as a young teenager that she wanted to pursue a career in music. She explains, “I always knew that I wanted music to be a part of my life, but it wasn’t until I was 13 and saw that Mariah Carey was a writer on her album that I realized writing and performing music was something I could actually do for a living.” Because of her love for performing live, k8 constantly tours in Pennsylvania . She has opened for Fefe Dobson, Toby Keith, Lee Ann Womack, and Pat Green. k8 enjoys regular airplay on 102.3 WAMT The Mountain (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania) and is featured on commercial radio station specialty shows and college radio. As for the future, there are no limits to what k8 will achieve. Through her live shows and popular website (k8music.com), k8 continues to win over new fans. Her poetic lyrics, beautiful voice, and rock foundations make it easy for many audiences to connect with her music. Moreover, with the release of her new EP, Something Out of Nothing , k8 proves that she is able and willing to take on the world.
