简介
LabFunk: music that isn’t quite “pure” this or “pure” that but is quite simply something else all together, a perfect name for Atjazz’s much lauded 2001 album for Mantis recordings. LabResults: not quite a pure remix album, nor a pure artist album. It was a collection of remixes previously only available on vinyl, some new Atjazz tracks and two new remixes. On knob twiddling duties was a veritable smorgasbord of remixing talent. First up was Dzihan and Kamien from Vienna’s Couch Records whose dreamy keys and strings remix of ‘Touch The Sun’ was a perfect album opener. Others who were handed the LabFunk components included Parisian duo Chateau Flight whose ‘Dark Side remix’ did exactly what it said on the tin and King Britt who delivered the kind of Jazz driven, beat-led mix which made him so popular with the likes of IG Culture and Phil Asher. Mantis stablemates Phil Parnell and Brooks also turned in a mix each. Brooks’ “Floot Loop Mix” (exclusive to this album) was a stunning piece of Detroit infused Jazz. It was our favourite LabResult at the Rocketscience office. Also exclusive to this album was the “Late Night Mix” by Dixon of the Sonar Kollektiv. Added to all this was 3 new tracks “Witchbender”, “Rain Angel” and “The Walk Home”, plus “Wrong Type of Day” (which previously only appeared on Compost’s Future Sound of Jazz 8, train spotters) and you had a package that could appeal to the broadest of tastes and maybe to some people who previously weren’t turned on by the sounds of Atjazz.
