God of Elation This song was a gift. The song lyrics and melody flowed through me in 20 minutes as I sat by Yosemite creek near the top of Yosemite Falls during a backpacking trip with my son Daniel. It’s a song of hope and inspiration. Ghost Inside The title track to my CD was inspired by quantum mechanics. The cryptic line "the mystery of Three" is a reference to something that is three in one, like a trinity - The creator, the created and the combined result of the two. The numerous harmonies and "background vocals" are highlights of this tune. Life Worth Living This is a very personal song, though I suppose all of them are at some level. Every time I play this it is like a prayer. Its a love song, but not what you’d expect. Balanced on the Knife The world can be a dangerous place and we have to choose how we deal with it, even if the choice is not to choose. Chesapeake Mare An original song recording from the late 1970's by Avatar, our band back in the day (no relation to the movie, as this was some time prior to that!). Originally recorded in a small studio in the Sacramento region. The Water This song was written while going through some hard times. The lyrics of releasing burdens, pain and sorrow helped me through those times. I have been blessed to play it at memorial services, as it just felt like the right thing to do. Higher Plane As we go through tough times, anger and righteousness can become ways of survival. Still, I knew that was not for me. In my heart I knew I needed to rise above it and express the love of Jesus. I don't normally choose how the song goes, the song chooses how it wants me to do it. Better Than We Know We are made as God’s children, yet sometimes we lose sight of that. There is so much possibility within us. We are better than we know. This is a reminder of that. God's Love This is an attempt to express the core of Jesus' message in a four minute song. Really, the message is pretty simple, pure and beautiful. Trust that God loves you and may you give that love too. The Spark Written in 2013, it’s a song about noticing and following the spark of inspiration. Keep the Faith Alive This is an all instrumental composition, one of the few I have done. It just happened in the studio one night. Spirit Above Written while backpacking in Oregon, on Mount Jefferson. It was raining, snowing, the water was rising, and it was beautiful (aside from the 2" of water in the bottom of the tent!). Kept the guitar dry, almost died and still managed to get this song out! Don't Take Love For Granted Love is fragile. We must care for each other and love will stay true. Stop and Wonder Why We too easily forget the wonders around us, the beauty and majesty of life. From time to time we need to "stop and wonder why" everything, including us, is here. Maelstrom This is a piano driven song, and is hard to characterize. It contains spiritual elements with a heartfelt exploration of our purpose and a challenge to look beyond our fears and take a chance on life. I Trust You Can This tune also came very quickly out of the blue. It is as if the song wrote itself. Turning things over and letting go of fear opens us up to possibility and brings us peace.
