简介
"The reward of sticking with your favorite local acts as they find their voice is both thrilling and challenging. Being so, I’m happy to say Los Angeles’s So Many Wizards have continued to craft their sound, perfecting their enigmatic blend of pop, rock, ballads and zany nuggets into a cohesive whole. While the entirety of their brief body of work has been enjoyable, on their new 7”, the maturity and honed sound is evident. As a vocalist, Nima Kazerouni has grown completely comfortable in his voice, seamlessly moving from falsetto into the bands ever-improving song structure and arrangements. Drummer Erik Felix pounds away while bassist Warren Woodward oo’s and aa’s to form the bands unique melodies; it’s not that we’ve been waiting for So Many Wizards to put out songs this good. Rather, it is that patience has been rewarded with their best songs yet" --- Aquarium Drunkard --- "In a world full of jumbled sub-genres and futile attempts to define them, I daresay that So Many Wizards (in both their name and music) truly capture what I would imagine dream pop to be. Their floating guitars and endlessly reverberated vocals and drums envelop the listener in a soft white cloud of sound, all the while maintaining gratifyingly light-hearted and extremely catchy pop sensibilities" --- BuzzChips ---- "Echoing vocals, climbing pianos and subtle percussion melt together on So Many Wizards’ bedroom pop dreamer, “Best Friends”. You’ll find this cut, along with A-side “Inner City”, on their latest 7-inch." --- The Downcast --- "Together combining easy listening experimental pop along with their magical musical touch, makes each track diverse and fun. Maybe the bands most recognizable track to date titled “Inner City” transports the chaos and excitement experienced when traveling through a new city into the track, giving the sense of that LA life the band portrays. With “So Many Wizards” fresh take on what can only be described as uncategorizable pop a bright future is predicted for the Los Angeles band"---- Once Upon A Time ---- "The local combo So Many Wizards has a bit of Vampire Weekend's humid single-string guitar riffery to it, but the band approaches songwriting in a nonlinear fashion that makes the twee-ness of its vocals seem studied and wry instead of cloying." --- L.A TImes ---- "Weaving a spell of jangly north western pop that will remind you of just about everyone who has played a jangly guitar up to the north of California, So Many Wizards are a fantastic band that have the songs to match. What's truly weird about all this is that while they sound like the long lost cousin of Modest Mouse or even Arcade Fire they reside in Los Angeles...whether or not the PCH has had an influence on them is up for debate" ---The Pop! Stereo --- "Here, the trio’s uncategorizable pop just gets more inventive — and Kazerouni sings his heart out. Very refreshing." ---- BuzzBands --- ""The bumps of bass guitar, splashy cymbals, and falsetto-drenched vocals on the serene B-side “Best Friends” prove especially rewarding here, setting the listener down in an otherworldly and intoxicating Neverland—and you won’t want to leave" --- Everybody Taste --- "What started out as the solo project of Nima Kazerouni has now developed into a fully fledged ethereal pop trio, by name of So Many Wizards, and by virtue of a notable knack for writing dreamy, 3 minute indie pop songs. Inspired by those comfortable pockets of calm within the hectic Los Angeles urbanity, the group (then a duo), engineered an EP with The Morning Benders’ Chris Chu at San Francisco’s Different Fur Studios, an endeavour which produced the airy “Nico”, a matter of weeks before film-maker and bassist Warren Woodward joined the line-up. There’s a distinctive and slightly trippy relentlessness and resentment about the furious pop on ‘Inner City’. ‘Best Friends’ is somewhat more light-hearted and 60s inspired, with a thick veil of reverb and galloping beat distinguishing a full and rounded production style and engaging execution. --- This Music Wins --- "These locals have been developing quite nicely, as is apparent on new 7" single "Inner City/Best Friends. While the voice of singer Nima Kazerouni may be increasingly becoming a love-it-or-hate-it thing for some listeners, the adoption of a scratched-record falsetto suits the band's shambly upbeat indie pop just fine. Kazerouni doesn't overdo it, and his backing mates on "Inner City" tackle the melody as if their job is to answer each of Kazerouni's lines. Rhythms never stop running uphill, and the slender guitar leads briskly decorate each vocal pause as if they're toying with Kazerouni. It all foretells good things to come for the band's delightfully wacky pop confectioneries" --- Pop & Hiss --- "These tracks are incredibly polished, if somewhat sugary for my musically diabetic tastes, yet it somehow succeeds to win me over. Maybe its the Ponytail leanings in Inner City'; maybe its the infectious groove that permeates 'Best Friends'. Whatever it is, this is a band well worth getting into." --- Sonic Masala ---
