Phatbrim & Tax Parade Records procured and released a compilation disc back in 2010 featuring all Wisconsin hip hop artists to benefit the Haitian people after the massive earthquake struck that country. That album was called Don't Turn Your Backs On Us! He and his record label are back in full form with this masterful release, Above The Brim. Albeit this is Phatbrim's first full-length instrumental album, he presents it to the public like a seasoned professional. His production has hints of DJ Shadow, Nightmares On Wax, Ant of Atmosphere, and even various trance djs. Cuts and extra sampling on this album are performed by the very talented JB ILL. As an avid music lover of all genres, one can definitely hear many different influences and musical styles in the songs on this new album. Songs contain mash-up vocals from the likes of Slug of Atmosphere, the Pharcyde, the Jackson 5, East Flatbush Project, Tears For Fears, Marlena Shaw, a Bohemian Rhapsody cover, and a closing clip from the legendary Hunter S. Thompson.
