简介
Goin’ Home – On Heaven and Beyond Here is a joyful, sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, and often playful exploration of the transition from this world to the next. Though some might speculate that it’s about our passing or our eventual transition, we prefer to think of it as a chance to stop our busy lives and take a musical moment to open our eyes to the timelessness of our future. So it’s really a celebration of eternal life. The music is drawn from both original compositions mostly by Peter Link, and also from the rich tradition of beloved Spiritual songs and Gospel lyrics from the past hundred years of the American songbook. Sometimes these Spiritual songs seem to tell us one thing, but for many of us, practical sense and our own personal consideration might ask us to think deeper. Led by double gold album R&B/Gospel vocalist, Jenny Burton, its choir performers comprise an ‘A’ list of world-class back-up singers who have sung with just about every major star in the music business: Darryl Tookes, Angela Clemmons, Cat Russell, and John James. They are joined by vocalists Kevin Osborne, Vaneese Thomas, and Keith Fluitt. Joining them are guest artists Julia Wade, Tom Tipton and trumpeter, Barry Danielian. Peter Link, the creator, composer, arranger and producer of this CD wrote, "Everyday I read from a book of truths each morning along with my other spiritual study and one of the stories went like this: 'I asked my guru why he sat and wept every New Year’s day when everyone around him was out celebrating. He answered that he wept for all those who had not prepared for their passing.' I thought to myself, 'I’d like to go through that experience, when it comes, fully aware and alert, expectant joyful, and filled with spiritual curiosity. When it comes to that transition, we Americans tend to look the other way and pretend that it doesn’t exist. I don’t want to be like that.' What better way to prepare than to write about it." So, "Goin’ Home" is about Heaven and Beyond. And it’s about music, great songs, uplifting, and joyful singing. It’s fun, it’s funny, it’s rich in its depth, and it definitely rocks the house. "Goin’ Home" is written as a Gospel Cantata. A cantata is simply short for “a musical composition for voices and orchestra based on a spiritual text.” Our vocal arranger and choir leader is Margaret Dorn, an amazingly talented lady who I’ve had the pleasure to work with for over 25 years now. She has an ear and touch like no other.
