Sometimes, you hear an album and no matter how much you\\\'re not in the mood for something like it, it just brings you to its headspace and makes you feel the songs. Ode To Sentience is probably one of those albums. I say probably because I\\\'ve only listened to it once so far but Emily Jane White has a third album which at first listen is truly transporting and transfixing. Her voice is beautiful in that ghostly way, a haunting alto which reminds you of the pain of the past. Her melodies give modern drama in spite of carrying an Americana feel. I have been listening to a lot of folk albums lately and I have been feeling like I need some electro pop in my life but here is a record which makes satisfies with reverbed acoustic guitar plucking and genuine atmosphere. It brings back White to the minimalist production of her debut but washes away some of the funereal hurt, creating a work which is nearly balanced, emotion almost evenly spread between sadness and serenity.
