Camila Meza moved to New York from her hometown of Santiago, Chile in 2009 and quickly gained recognition for her artistry, both from peers and jazz veterans. An equally gifted vocalist and guitar player, in her own words she feels "deeply connected with both instruments". "I express myself emotionally both through song lyrics and instrumental melodies, and find both equally fulfilling." It is indeed very rare to hear a jazz singer play guitar like she does, with deep lyricism and virtuosity. Her vocal talent is equally obvious, natural and soulful. Rooted in the jazz tradition, deeply influenced by the folk traditions of her home continent and with an ear for contemporary trends, Camila has found a way to express all that she is through her music. Singing in English, Portuguese and her native Spanish, her repertoire includes her own compositions, personal takes on American and Latin American standards, and her own adaptations of her favorite rock and pop tunes. "Jazz has become a universal language. Its freedom, spontaneity, and communicative possibilities attract me the most." Camila has collaborated and performed with jazz luminaries and peers such as Aaron Goldberg, Greg Hutchinson, John Ellis, Clarence Penn, Shai Maestro, Sachal Vasandani, Nir Felder, Gerald Clayton, Fabian Almazan, and Francisco Mela among others. Camila has performed in festivals all over the world, including Saratoga Jazz Festival, Lake George Jazz Festival, Festival JAZZUV in Mexico, Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland and Swidnica Jazz Festival in Poland among others. "A bright young singer and guitarist with an ear for music of both folkloric and pop intention, Camila Meza has connected with a strong peer group since moving to New York from her native Santiago, Chile, in 2009" New York Times
