简介

Over the course of a nine day period, Montana songwriter David Boone penned a group of twelve songs and then began arranging the material, digitally, alongside a collaborative of longtime friends and fellow musicians spread throughout the Northwest. Just months later, the group rendezvoused at a remote studio retreat in western Montana and began recording the new project. At the encouragement of Boone's wife, the batch of demos was sent out and caught the attention of acclaimed UK producer, Danton Supple (Coldplay, Starsailor, Morrisey). Boone, along with his wife and two month old son, traveled to London in the fall of 2011 to work with Supple, accompanied by string-arranger, Audrey Riley (The Smiths, The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins). The dynamic collaboration brought to full realization the artist's original vision, and DAWNS was born. Lush melodies and orchestral arrangements blend with americana, indie rock and pop to make the album stand out with each track. The original imagery from the project, comes from the Spiral Jetty in Utah, and was shot by Montana based visual/conceptual artist, Burke Jam, who played a key role in the creative development of the D A W N S project. Several songs of the original EP are accompanied by a video and the artistic concept behind the video series is to create a world within the story lines, and a broader narrative for D A W N S than just that of a common music video; interweaving plots of human struggle and triumph, and ultimately realization or awakening. “Evidence and Answers” is the first video in the series. It was filmed at joint locations, one being Boone's home that he and his wife built in Missoula, Montana. A crew of five people began filming by traveling 900 miles through the night to reach Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty in Utah at sunrise, where the majority of the filming took place. Smithson built the Spiral Jetty in 1970 at low tide, and by the time he had finished the nearly 1,500 ft long coil of mud, salt crystals, basalt rocks, earth and water jutting from the shore of the Great Salt Lake, the water level returned to normal and submerged the jetty for the next three decades. “With ‘Evidence and Answers,’ the song and the video, there is a certain sense of the 'promised land',” expands Boone. “But not as a destination that is seen or anticipated, but as it is beginning to be realized from within.” The fourth video in the series is for the song “Beam of Light.” It was filmed at the Sun Tunnels in Great Desert Basin Utah, created by Smithson's wife, Nancy Holt as a tribute to her husband after his tragic passing in the 70's, following his creation of the Spiral Jetty. The tunnels line up with the rising and falling sun of the summer and winter solstices. They are only officially 'active' on these two dates. This concept of making a beautifully inspirational creative work, knowing that it would only be visible at times and subject to change by the patterns of nature, was deeply inspirational to the Boone. The songwriter felt that these places and these works could speak to him, teach him, and also illuminate the concepts found within his own songs. The video series is produced, filmed and directed by Missoula filmmakers Patrick Cook, Brandon Woodard and Mat Miller. Burke Jam collaborated with filmmakers Cook, Woodard and Miller on the final "Beam of Light" video. “You’re more than always, more than forever, no measurement of time can find out what you're made of” “We’re bound by evidence, we're bound by answers, and if you want my own two cents I say we'll dance together.” (“Evidence and Answers”)
